Gretchen's 6th Birthday

Gretchen turned 6 on September 9th. We started the celebration early by having pancakes for breakfast, instead of our normal cereal. At school, she brought Kit Kats as a treat. 2 other kids in her class have the same birthday, so there were lots of treats.

When Aaron got home from work, we took Gretchen to dinner, her choice. Of course, it was McDonalds. She got the usual chicken nuggets with chocolate milk and played for 45 minutes on the playland. We don't do that very often, so that was really a treat.

After getting sweaty on the playland slides, we went home and Marni, McKay, Miley, Shea and Jordan came over for presents, cake and ice cream.

Gretchen got lots of presents, including a new fishing pole, some clothes, a blue bouncy ball, some movies, games, a soft dog (which she slept with that night), a book bag with notebooks, pencils, paper clips and push pins. She loved all of the presents and was really good about saying "thank you" after each one.

One of her favorite presents was from Shelby. Shelby bought it with her own money. It was Littlest Pet Shop animals. Shelby was a great sister to buy that and I was very proud of the love she showed Gretchen. That just goes to prove that no matter how many times Shelby says the thinks Gretchen wants to kill her, Shelby still really loves her. Phew!

After presents, we brought in the cake. This year, I'm all about easy, so we ordered the cake from Costco. Gretchen picked out a soccer cake, since she and Shelby are in soccer this year. It was a chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling and white frosting. I am loving it, because I have been craving chocolate cake.
Gretchen got a call from Grandma/Grandpa Jenkins and Grandma Great Andrus. They are all up at the Island Park cabin for the week, so they miss out being here in person on her birthday, but Gretchen was happy to hear from them and have them tell her Happy Birthday. Of course, she knows presents will be coming when they get back too! :-)

It was a good day. I am surprised at how much Gretchen has grown up in the past year. Some days you just want to put a rock on their head to keep them from growing up more, but we are excited to see the kind of girl she will become. We love you Gretchen!!!!
